I played a lot of Dota 2 Auto Chess mod, I have tried all thats out expect the mobile version, which is made by those who orignally made the mod in the first place.
It's great to see another genre of gaming have been crafted from a game that allows mod/custom maps.
Its like Wc3 and Dota all over again. Warcraft3 makes Dota 2, Dota 2 Make auto chess.

Anyone think this be an esport or not, because of the RNG element?

I mean yeah a lot of successful games and game types do derive from already made games. Like dayz which resulted in pubg and all that battle royal shabang. But I still don't see auto chess having that much potential becoming the next big thing. But I might be wrong.

I played the Mod and Underlords, didn't try anything else. Underlords stopped working properly in China with a lot of disconnects, for reasons that have definitely nothing to do with a certain other competitor owned by a company here.
I like it a whole lot, there is as much RNG as you would expect from a card game, more or less depending on the card game. I think it is extremely promising, the big developpers think so too it seems. Perhaps one day, Blizzard will make Warcraft Auto Chess ? Or perhaps I'll make Warcraft Manual Chess ?

I also find so interesting how Mods that are made by gamers, players... are the ones that create the path to independent games and genres. Companies makes bad games, gamers make games for themselves and others.

Gamers make games that they know they're fun for them while most companies try to create games that they think will be fun.

I think companies just make games that they 100% know will be safe and popular. Their sole goal is to make money and possible fun doesn't, only trends are safe picks. Battle Royale, for example, would be a stupid idea for any company as it was quite risky and never tested. So it was the modders who made it. Then after it became successful and popular the AAA companies knew it was a safe pick then made it. Majority of good gameplay ideas have been made by modders and gamers. Companies just refine those ideas and build on top of it to take the profits. They never make original thoughts generally as its too risky.

It's a shame though as this has lead to repetitive gameplay. Though sometimes when a company actually experiments with something new, amazing things can happen such as WoW. It's a shame though now all big publishers have become close-minded cowards and just copy what has worked instead of making what will work.

Overall this has more to do with corporate lords not wanting the devs to innovate and stick with what is safe as not to lose money whereas modders don't care if their mod fails as they won't get fired or lose money. Therefore they just go with they think and innovation happens. In other words, when you know you can afford to fail, great things can happen.

That's actually very good point. Which is also why indie games can be so much fun and popular. Because indie games are almost always something new.

I played LoL's Teamfight Tactics twice. Interesting but would actually not play it again as for me it feels a bit of waste of time. But then again, I was never into this kind of genre.

Aren't all games a waste of time? Perhaps you mean there is no in-game progress in these kinds of games?

The mobile version is pretty good.
Do Auto Chess from Dota 2, Dota Overlords, and the mobile one are all the same right? (As same champions and gameplay).

Yeah, that. Any game that has no progression feels like a waste of time.

"Moba" was created in w3, it appeared then in valve, a copy from riot was launched and became the most popular, and long time later blizzard launched his, which came too late and was finally abandoned.
Now the "Autochess" was created in w3, became famous in Dota2, valve got his piece of the cake, and then riot launched a copy and became the most popular, long time later blizzard may release his but it will too late.

AGAIN. Same history, same timeline, same characters involved. Blizzard should have learnt, but nope.

Now talking about the game itself, it is cool and interesting, but needs a bit polishing. The mod in dota was a mess but was normal for being a mod, then underlords needed some kind of "reward" for lvling up, and they needed more pieces to allow different combos, and no "if u want to go mages u need THESE mages" and their item system was cool and balanced for giving u the chance to choose and adding pasives, but was wrong allowing u to move items from one piece to another; and finally TFT has the riot reward system, what makes the people to keep playing it, what is a smart move, has cool combos and a lot of different pieces that allow u different combos and strategies (u can go assasins with imperial, with void, with wild, with...) and how the items merges is really awesome, also the carousel round is a really interesting new adition, BUT items in TFT are too random, and affect too much the game, they need to limit that rng to have a better game.

Luckily, riot has listened the demands about the item system and has already been improved in the PTR, they are also adding more stuff like the damage counter, etc.

Summarizing, TFT is the best game by far, and what is more important, is the one which is evolving more and faster, what makes its future the brightiest.
And yes, i think there can be a competitive of this kind of game: a lot of people plays it, a lot of people watches it, there have been already tournaments, can easily appear "famous" players known for great wins or weird strategies, allows a lot of combos and strategies and finally, you can have cool comebacks.

For all those who say "it has rng, cant have competitive" i would just say: card games, both poker and hs.

Been a while since you tried it? It recently added rewards, it was still in beta when it came on the live server.
The Dota Auto Chess Mod on Dota 2 gives you these candies if yo u are in the top 3 and u can buy skin on the courier that you use to move piece and move around with.

I had to come back here. I have found myself playing more and more LoL's Teamfight Tactics. Has something catchy about it.

Also losing in Solo/Duo ranked a lot helped me go there xD
